The Role

Due to the ongoing growth of Governor Services, we are expanding our team of Clerks to support schools across London, the UK and internationally. Whilst there may be a requirement to attend meetings in person, support is also required for virtual and blended meetings where a Clerk may work remotely and across different time-zones. Therefore, applications from overseas candidates are also welcome.

As a School Governor Clerk, you will be directly responsible for the provision of services to a specified number of multi-academy trusts, school governing boards, and other commercial contracts, ensuring that our high standards are met in a professional and effective manner via remote on-line meetings. This is a part-time position with flexible hours, primarily focused around term-time meetings. Whilst training will be provided including attendance at our termly virtual Clerks’ Briefing, there is an expectation that you will be available to attend our offices in East London for training from time-to-time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Meeting Management: Organise, schedule, and prepare agendas for all governing body and committee meetings.
  • Minute Taking: Attend all meetings (via video conference) to accurately and concisely minute discussions, decisions, and actions.
  • Documentation: Distribute meeting papers and minutes to governors in a timely manner. Maintain an accurate and up-to-date record of all governing body documentation.
  • Compliance: Provide advice to the governing board on governance, constitutional and procedural matters ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies.
  • Governance Administration: Manage governor records, including terms of office, declarations of interest, and attendance.

What We Are Looking For

Essential Skills:

  • Proficiency in using virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams) and G-Suite/Microsoft Office.
  • Extensive experience of managing on-line meetings and sessions.
  • Proven experience in a clerking or senior administrative role, with excellent minute-taking abilities.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills.
  • A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working with a school governing body.
  • Knowledge of education sector regulations and governance best practices.
