About the Programme

HeadStart is a Big Lottery funded innovative mental health prevention programme in Newham. We promote emotional resilience in 10-16 year olds at risk of developing mental health difficulties by delivering a range of evidence-based interventions in schools and the community.

For this exciting borough wide programme we are recruiting two additional members to our multi-disciplinary team of professionals to help deliver our service to schools, young people and the community.

About You

As a significant member of our Practitioner Team, you are someone with an entrepreneurial spirit who is willing to get stuck in, creatively problem solving if things don’t work straight away. We are a new service and we are testing and learning all the time which is not always easy - a can-do attitude, patience and positivity is key.

You will have some experience of working with vulnerable young people with the skills and attributes to build excellent working relationships with young people, school staff, parents and other professionals working in the school community. You will understand the challenges families in Newham face and have a sensitivity to working with schools to support young people to thrive. You may be considering a role in the youth or education sector in the future and want to learn more about what is involved first hand.

About the role

As our team develops, we need a robust support system for our Schools Team. Your role will be to provide cover and support for Practitioners on leave by delivering sessions, as well as co-delivering some interventions alongside experienced Practitioners. In addition, you will be providing much-needed administrative support to the team. To find out more about what our interventions entail, check out our website: https://www.headstartnewham.co.uk/

This role is a great spring board for someones wanting to develop key skills and knowledge in the youth, education and mental health sector, as well as an opportunity to use an existing skill set around administrative and operational tasks.

We are only looking for candidates intrested in full-time term time roles. You must be able to work during term hours.
